Personal bike History Pt 2

Still they were insured and the payout meant I went to the area’s big name racing store ‘Deeside Cycles’ and bought a road bike meant for racing. This lovely red frame is badged as ‘Graham Weigh’ who operated ‘Deeside Cycles’ but I believe ‘Terry Dolan’ actually had a hand in their fame supply. 531 tubing, Campag groupset, lovely downtube shifters. This was the bike I won a TT on (reduced field due to incredible thunderstorm) and Hill Climbed against a young Chris Boardman (he won the overall event in a record time – 4 minutes quicker than my 12 minute finish time). Looking at it now I can’t believe how much seatpost there is,must have been a tiny frame!

I cannot remember how this bike met it’s demise, but I know what came next....

– it was an impulse buy, I needed a bike quick as I was commuting everyday and it had a sexy flat fork and unpainted metal finish – it looked sexy and I could afford it. It was branded as a KF and sold by a non descript LBS in South London. Even browsing the web now KF are an enigma. I loved it at the time and raced with Addiscombe CC on it for a year or so. I took it to my new friends at Pearson’s Cyclesin Sutton one day to ask about the lose headset and creaking. They told me that the headtube had been poorly threaded/bored or something and advised that it was unsafe to ride. So then I bought the bike that has so far eclipsed all others......

Bicycles and Bodies - Opening

I invite everyone with a love of art and bicycles to the opening night of 'Bikes and Body Art' at the 'Little Black Pearl Art Center' in Hyde Park, Chicago, on Thursday 17th Sept from 6 - 9pm.

The reception will be a great opportunity to not only see the work but also chat with the artists and meet others in the cycling community of our great city, of course there may even be a few free drinks and nibbles around too.

If we can make this a success this year the art center wants the show to grow next year and for the art center itself to become more active in the promotion of cycling. We need your support.

Thanks,

Steve.

Screengrabs of Tour of Missouri crash - Stage 1

The Cervelo rider on the left had swung out of the sprint group and did look behind him whilst coasting to the finish. He does swing across the road and it's obvious that the leader of the second 'sprinting' group wasn't looking ahead. 50/50 I would say.

Screens grabbed from Universal Sports on demand video.

Couple of Offsite Galleries for Eurobike and Portland's Soapbox Derby.

Also I saw this beautiful monster on Design Sponge:

After naming our daughter Molly we dicovered that she has the most common name for a dog in NYC - and now this!!!!
"As he crossed the line, Evans, incandescent with the same rage that saw him once threaten a reporter with decapitation over an incident with his dog Molly, shook his fist at the Dutchman." Eurosport online.

Vanderkitten and Storck.

'Vanderkitten'
19" x 25 1/2" on very heavyweight watercolour paper.

Inspired by the fact that the Storck Demo Tour was visiting my mate J's bike shop, Tati Cycles in Hyde Park Chicago I put together this little number. Which I am bloody pleased with. I don't think my photography quite does it justice - it looks even better in the flesh.

Takes me back to the college days of just being loose with drawing and having fun and at the same time captures the feeling of speed that is a must when the two forces of the 'kittens and Storck combine. It started as a series of light black ink washes with line drawing added between each new wash, layers and layers add up to the final piece.

J also hung a few of my paintings in the store the night that Storck visited - thanks again.
Here are some images from Storck's blog:

S.. S...S...S....Stages!

Better late than never.

Not new news - but Armstrong news that I actually like.
When I heard about this I was expecting to see a bunch of paintings about bikes - how wrong I was.
Lance Armstrong and Nike unite to launch STAGES, a global art exhibition to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer.

Over twenty renowned artists have donated their time and creativity to express the LIVESTRONG message and raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which is committed to inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer.

STAGES is more than an event. It is a unique celebration of human potential inspired by Lance and dedicated to the fight against cancer.

It unites the world of art, philanthropy, and sport by bringing together some of the most renowned figures in art to produce work inspired by Lance and his fight against cancer. All work is available for purchase with proceeds directly benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Join the fight. LIVESTRONG.
Quite a variety of artwork on show and I am surprised by my favorite.

'Tree With Yellow Blossoms' by Ci Guo-Qiang.

Of the 'photographs of the work in the exhibition on the website' this one seems to fulfill the promise of rebirth, struggle and hope. Ok, it's just beautiful and dynamic.

There are bikes too!!

The show hits NYC in October.
