Many thanks to Maggie at Christian Vande Velde's Fan Club for publicizing the auction of 'that' painting this coming weekend. I saw it plastered over their front page today - wow!

Check out the site for the latest and greatest news on Christian as well as competitions and give aways.
My signed painting of Christian Vande Velde will be auctioned this weekend at the National Handbuilt Bicycle Show in Indianapolis.
If you are going to the show I hope you will be able to attend the ArtBike! party at the Big Car Gallery on Friday night at 8pm or visit the ArtBike! booth in the show.
The reserve price for 'VandeVelde' is $1600, that's the same price as one of my 'unsigned' paintings. If you are unable to make it to the show I am sure that the organisers of ArtBike will be willing to take an absentee bid.
Let me know and I will make the necessary contacts etc.
Don't forget that 50% of the sale price is going directly to Indianapolis Cycling charities and projects. Your purchase of this one of a kind piece of cycling art and memorabilia will be helping children and promoting cycling.
Thanks so much,
Steve

34 Layers of birchwood - count them.
All that's left is some aluminium and carbon.
It weighs 9.5kg and took 160 hours to handbuild.
Jan Gunneweg is a dutch industrial designer who obviously shows his great love of and talent for working in wood in his handbuilt pieces. None more so than this beautiful racing machine. Which I would never ride in competition for fear of scratching it - (though maybe it could just be sanded down). Check out his website to see a hybrid bike, wheelchair and interiors - and some interesting video giving a glimpse of him handforming shapes and such.
I only just found out about this this afternoon and risking the wrath of my wife who had earlier left the house without her keys on this stormy evening I rushed to deliver a painting and return before she found herself locked out. All to great success. Due to only just discovering this today I cannot tell you too much about it.
Organized as part of Bike Winter and Critical Mass the show is based at studio 350 in the Flat Iron Building and meanders through adjacent hallways. There will be opening party this Friday from 6pm till 10pm (I will be there) and then other evening events over the coming weeks until the closing party on the 27th (I will be at ArtBike in Indianapolis). Looks like lots of great cycling advocacy, art, partying, rides, film, music and surely some drink, not to forget the launch of the charity 2009 Thought You Knew Pin-Up Calender.
'Magenta' will be hanging at the show until the 27 Feb.
The Cycling Dude was given free tickets to go see 'Klunkerz': Klunkerz tells the story of a small group of hippie/athletes who, quite literally, reinvented the wheel. Their passion for cycling created a multi-billion dollar industry and an Olympic sport...
and he was able to meet those very hippies and drink in their awesomeness - read it here and keep checking the Cycling Dudes blog too for other fun stories.
Gary Fisher is one stylish guy.
My recently completed portrait of Christian Vande Velde is being hung at The Big Car Gallery in Indianapolis tonight as part of the NAHBS' ArtBike! activities and here it is for the blogosphere to see.
Artbike! is a street art/sculpture/installation art exhibition, that is open to all and brings creative progressive people together through community, bikes and art!
Then on February 27th Artbike! is holding a party at the gallery:
Music!, Dancing!, Raffle!, Gold Sprints!, NAHBS VIP Room!, Art!, Bikes!
The party will be hosted by NAHBS and 02 Sports Marketing and sponsors include Momentum Magazine.
The Vande Velde painting will be one of the items in a silent auction that night.
Did I mention that it is an original piece of art signed by the rider himself?

If you live near Indy or are travelling to the NAHBS this is your opportunity to bid on this great painting and other exciting pieces of BikeArt!
Artbike will also have a 20'x20' booth at the NAHBS displaying some of the artwork - some of which will be for sale and will include my painting 'NYVelocity'.
All sales from the events will be split 50/50 between the artists and local cycling charities and non-profits. Not only will you buy some recession proof art but you will also be investing in the cycling lives of needy causes.
If you are at the show and/or party do introduce to me - I will probably have my 9 month old strapped to my chest.
See you there,
Steve
