Chicago Bike Messenger on APM

I love NPR and am still learning what is on WBEZ as I miss ye good olde Leonard Lopate on WNYC. On Thursday I was feeding Molly some organic pears whilst listening to 'The Story' and an interview with Chris Darby who worked as a messenger in Chicago - here is his story - after the Guantanamo article: download

Reminds me of a super book which I'll need to dig out becuase I can't remember the title.

Worth noting that even though I find Chicago's motorists much more aware and generous to cyclists than in NYC they don't seem to give a damn about pedestrians, try crossing the roads in Chicago - scary.

Lake Shore Path

This was the day I set out to ride the length of the magnificent Lake Shore path.
I think it was midday and the weather was still pretty warm for October and to be honest I got kinda bored and distracted and started to think about work and such so I turned around halfway between downtown and the southern end of the path. Which meant I rode around 35 miles and saw this stuff on the way. I'll save the bikely map until I do a more thorough ride.


'Da Bears' stadium is quite fantastic from the outside. I love how they built a modern arena within the old. The new building consists of these two big sweeping sides that jut into the sky. Either side of this are the old stadia walls, I dare say they moved them from their original positions but it's a loely merging of old traditions and new money.


This is the view from my turnaroud spot. Chicago has one othe most faiytale skylines I have ever seen. It really does remind me of the city of Oz as portrayed in the Judy Garland movie. Frank Baum who wrote The WIzard of Oz was a Chicagoan himself. This photo shows how downtown is tightly clustered and soars out of the lake and lower surroundings. When flying into O'Hare though you really see how flat the surrounding areas are, you see the roads all zipping straight to the towering pinnacle of downtown. Santiago Calatrava is building the Spire which could be an architectural masterpiece to this skyline - but anything would be next to Trumps latest carbuncle.
