All of this led me to decide to create a series of 6" x 6" paintings celebrating the riders who win each of the 11 one day races. This is the first - Congratulations Katheryn.Wednesday, May 28, 2008
UCI Women's World Cup
On February 24 2008 Katheryn Mattis of Webcor Builders won the opening round of the 2008 Women's World Cup. Being a Welshman and a cyclist I have been following the rise of Nicole Cooke in cycling over the last 5 years or so. This meant I was pouring over race results, looking at photographs and hunting down video clips of the Women's World Cup. Now I am not going to say they are all clean, but whilst the men's races were bogged down with witchhunts and the dominance of one or two principal riders, women's racing not only seemed clean but also exciting and open. There are a number of star riders capable of taking race wins all year round and fight it out for the top spot. Now in 2008 you will see that there are a more talented women contesting the series than before. The only caveat being it is an Olympic year and so many riders are focusing on Gold as opposed to World Cup points, including Nicole.
All of this led me to decide to create a series of 6" x 6" paintings celebrating the riders who win each of the 11 one day races. This is the first - Congratulations Katheryn.

Fun Interview with Liggett
Phil Liggett once the voice of British Cycling along with the great Hugh Porter and David Duffield.
Now the voice of cycling for the English speaking world.
NYVelocity has a fun interview with the man himself here.
By the way if you wander onto other pages at NYVelocity I won't be held responsible.
The chat by some NYC locals is pretty nasty, petty and discouraging - you have been warned.

Il Giro live online
Here is one way of watching The Giro online.
Visit this site and try a few of the media player links to find your best viewing option. The tv stations themselves are Dutch, German and maybe Danish but picture quality can be good.
The Giro and especially the Vuelta are often far more exciting races than the Tour itself.
Enjoy.
