Whilst taking a break from the downhill painting I started having fun with some oils. Just moving it around with Turpenoid and getting some really great effects. It looks almost like a charcoal wash to some degree. Not being too serious with proportion etc concentrating on the movement and exaggerating those things that cyclist want exaggerated like thighs!! Again I am thinking about when to end - keep it as a nice quick sketch, move towards it being a painting or just keep experimenting on top of this? My wife may have the final say. I do need to leave it long enough for this surface of oil to truly dry now though I think. Oh and its a whopping 24" x 30".
Getting somewhere. Next I am going to work on the pulling the bike out a little more. This is merely procrastination before the final session of hitting the figures with some solid strokes to define the form and lift it out of the forest.

It's coming along - I decided to let the paint lead me this time.
Though I did make point of pretty much painting in transparent coloured glazes which I think has led to the amazing vividness of the colours. Hoping to be able to suggest the rider's form with broad looser strokes - we'll see what happens.
and it's got knobbly tyres on!!!!
Just trying something a little different.
I have a painting in the 'Art Gotham' Square Foot Show. Presented with the smallest canvas I have worked on in some time I hunted around for the right image before settling on a classic portrait of Eddie Merckx. It will be at the Art Gotham gallery until the 17th November. I just got back from the 20 week scan where for the first time I saw in glorious section-o-vision our wonderful first baby so you'll have to excuse my lack of words for the painting - enjoy.
